EPV20 - EDM UPDATE1: VIETNAM’S DEMAND FOR ELECTRICITY WILL INCREASE 5% BY 2023

Specifically, Vietnam will face serious power shortages from 2021 when electricity demand far exceeds the construction of new power plants...

The lack of energy infrastructure could affect foreign investment flowing into Vietnam - one of the leading beneficiaries of the US - China trade war. According to the notice from the Ministry of Industry and Trade:

  • Vietnam's electricity demand will exceed 6.6 billion kilowatt of supply by 2021.
  • By 2023, electricity demand will increase to 15 billion kWh, equivalent to about 5% of electricity demand forecasted thereafter.

To solve these problems, the search and upgrade of electricity infrastructure is an urgent task that businesses exploiting in this field in Vietnam must do to meet the increasing demand today without having to import electricity from neighboring countries.
